problem connecting to router from laptops

i connected my computer to my router. now i can connect to the internet through that computer and through another laptop i have through wireless lan... and yet my other laptop cant coonect - well actually it tells me that i am connected to the network.. but i cant connect to the internet on that computer. the packets sent and recieved are basicly at 0 all the time. I noticed that in my connection status where is says "connection type:" it does not say "assigned by DHCP" like on my other laptop.. i think this is the problem... how do i make it assigned by DHCP?

What kind of router? Operating System? What kind of encryption are you using on your router?

DHCP should be automatic, but you can check by going to your Network Connections, right click on your wireless connection, choose properties.

Select TCP/IP from the list of items shown and choose properties.
From there it should already be set on Obtain an IP address automatically.

If not set it and hit apply.


You might connect to your router, usually set at the address 192.168.2.1 in your browser and verify there isnt a filter set, such as MAC.

But if you are using win2k you need to make sure that you use WEP 64bit because win2k wont connect with 128bit
