Unhappy Weird XP Internet/Network Issue

Hi -- System worked just fine til I downloaded IE6 security patch last night, and now I cannot connect to Internet. I am running XP Pro on IBM laptop and have Linksys wireless NIC. I can ping the router and DHCP appears to be working. When I do an IPCONFIG/all I can see addresses and DNS servers for this connection. Initially, thought my NIC had gone bad so put in working Netgear NIC but same symptoms. Took wireless out of the loop and connected directly to cable modem, with same results. Status on the connection indicates good connection and packets are being sent but packets are not being received. I can connect via modem and via my sierra wireless card.

Any ideas???

Appreciate the help. Anne

solution

Just to wrap this one up, I went to control panel and looked for a way to uninstall IE6. Found the patch listed separately as IE6 and a 6? digit number. I uninstalled this and everything works, smooth as silk. What a headache though. But the nightmare is over.
