Questions concerning XP tweaks and system shutdown

Okay, I just got a new HP with Windows XP. I did a search and found two websites with a bunch of tweaks for XP. My three questions are:
1)Is there anything wrong with doing a lot of the tweaks others have posted about?

And the other question is how to restore a certain program that I disabled. Here is a description of what I want back is:
2)When I go to My Computer or My Documents, on the left side of the open screen there used to be a list of options and details I could do other than just showing the files and folders. Examples included sending or deleting all files and it also shows available memory and other settings and options. What do I need to do to get that back list back on the left side of the open page?
By the way, my XP system flys after performing the tweaks.

3)Is it better to shut down the computer or leaving it in standby?
Please let me know, thanks.

1) There is nothing wrong with the tweaks that are posted here, I try many out myself and they do not harm your computer, provided that you follow the instructions exactly and know what you are doing.

2) You need to enable Web View of the folders, once you open up a window, click on "Tools" at the top and then down to "Options", and then on the opo-up, enable web view. that should be it (if I understood your question correctly).

3) As far as I know, many like to keep their computer on (whether on standby or not). If you have sufficient cooling of the CPU, then I would say fine, keep it in standby rather then shutdown.

If anyone can correct me on any of these, please do.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I found out how to get that menu back up. One thing I decided I would do is make a list of all the tweaks I have done for future reference. I would like more opinions on whether or not it's better to turn off the computer or leave it running. After downloading a program that shows CPU and motheboard temps, I'd say mine ranges from 95F-109F. Is that some safe temps? Sorry guys but one last question, I have a cd-writer in my 1st bay. If I wanted to copy stuff from one cd to another, what kind of cd player do I need in my other bay? Can it just be a basic cd player or does it have to be cd-rw?

As far as the CPU temperatures you listed, those seem fine, if you can read the celsius temps, then if you're running anywhere from 40-50 degree celsius then it's safe and running normally. As far as you wanting to copy from cd-to-cd, then just a standard CD-Rom drive will be sufficient for copying purposes.

I was wondering, when you have added quite a few tweaks to you list, could you email them to me? I wanted a list of tweaks for my computer. I have applied alot but forgot to record them.

Thanks.
