Removing an IE Toolbutton

Hello Everyone,

I installed the BT Yahoo! broadband internet software package and had a BT Yahoo! toolbutton installed onto my IE browser.

I uninstalled the entire BT Yahoo! program but the toolbutton still remains on my IE browser under the "Tools" tab as "BT Yahoo! Sidebar".

When I click on "Customize...", I am brought to a window which displays 2 columns --- "Available toolbar buttons" on the left and "Current toolbar buttons" on the right. I removed the "BT Yahoo! Sidebar" from the "Current toolbar buttons" column to the "Available toolbar buttons" column. That is as far as I could get.

I could not get rid of it completely.

Has anyone encountered the same problem and knows how to entirely remove this toolbutton?

Thank you very much indeed.

Sincerely,
Bob

I have found two entries in IE where the BT! Yahoo option remains after removal of the software.

1st - as you point out in the TOOLS menu - to remove go to START - RUN and type regedt32 or regedit depending on Windows version running. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SOFTWARE - MICROSOFT - INTERNET EXPLORER - EXTENSIONS.
You will see a number of keys located underneath the EXTENSIONS Menu - select each one in turn until you find the one that refers to BT! Yahoo - right click on the key and select delete. PLEASE ENSURE YOU CLOSE INTERNET EXPLORER FIRST - when you reopen the item should be gone from the toolbar!

2nd - under VIEW - EXPLORER BAR in IE I also found a reference to the Sidebar. Run Regedt32 again, click on my computer, select EDIT - FIND and type in "yahoo" - a number of entries will be found but in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID it should find "BT! Yahoo Sidebar@ - click on the key and select delete, this will remove the entry from the view menu

Hope this helps
