Angry Error: Access Violation at 0x00D39CAA (tried to read from 0xFFFFFFFF)

Hi All,
Can anyone help me with this problem? I am trying to install a game on my computer and get the following error: Access violation at 0x00D39CAA (trird to read 0xFFFFFFFF), program terminated.

The program unpacks OK but the error occurs as soon as the setup.exe file tried to run.

I have separate hard drive caddies an the error only occurs on one of these so I know the problem is NOT hardware related and must be due to a difference between the two hard drives. I have checked all startup services are the same and even tried to install in safe mode! but always the same error. Any help would be much appriciated.
