Question keeps switching to default monitor

Hi.

I run XP Home 5.1. I can easily set up the correct monitor I use from within the control panel-display-settings. This works fine and I get the right refresh rate etc. (It's an Ergovision TCO-95). No problems I click "accept" and carry on, everything is great.

Thing is, every time I re-boot the computer, the monitor settings return to the "default monitor". Also the correct monitor then does not even appear in the monitor list on the control panel. I need to go to "install new hardware", then select the Ergovision once again, then go back to the control panel set up and do the same old procedure to re-check the refresh rate etc. The driver works fine after than and the monitor works normally.

This happens every time I re-boot the PC from cold. It does not happen when I use the "Hibernate". I would not be too worried but the default monitor uses a slow flickery refresh rate and I don't like it. This is why it's so obvious each time I re-boot.

How can I stop this happening?

Justin, UK
