XP unstable free problem

I don't know if anyone has experience this but when i boot my computer, when it gets to the windows xp screen and the blue icon is moving to the right, all of a sudden it would freeze and I would need to restart the computer again. This occur occasionally when i boot my computer and I can't figure out what is wrong.

I get this unstability when i just format my computer last week. I have a BTC 20X cd-rom in mode 4 under primary slave, and a plextor 12/10/32 cd writer under secondary master, and both of them are in mode 4. Is this the problem?????

Disconnect the data cable from one of the drives and run the PC for a few days to see if the problem repeats.

If it does repeat, disconnect the other drive so that they are both disconnected and run the PC for a few days.

If the problem is still apparent with both drives disconnected try running a 'Boot Memory Test'.
