System Repair disks
Hi all merry Xmas,
Found details in this forum on how to create and emergency repair disk in windows xp using backup.
The thing is it says use the Icon called Emergency repair disk but where it says it is mine says create "automated system recovery"
I have tried this but it seems to want to backup all my hard drive to floppy (approx 18gb of data) can anyone tell me where I am going wrong or how I can create the emergency disk please.

Automated System Recovery
I have the same problem, but the solution does not seem to work as when the floppy is full, a request for another and another is made and suggests that it will take 3 days!
I cannot find a way of making the Emegency Repair Floppy

Hey D.Arbib, that was aimed at clone1020, not you dude! We are allowed fun on forums once in a while, you know. LOL
What exactly do you want to do? Do you have an original, hologramed XP CD/restore disks/recovery disks? What do you want to backup exactly?
Ideally, you should invest in Norton Ghost 2003, or an equivalent, IMO. If I am misunderstanding the issue, please advise me with full details.

Automated System Recovery
I want to make the floppy that is used in F2 during boot up
and all I seem to be able to do is to use the ASR Wizard which seeks to put the whole of my hard disk on to floppies taking several days to do it and over 100 floppies

D.Arbib, F2 has no function at all on my puter at bootup.
How about trying a reinstall of XP. However, you may lose program settings and data after you perform this.

Automated System Recovery
My system is OK, but am looking at a friend's system which is partially fouled up. During the install of XP pro it will also ask if I have an ASR floppy, but a short cut is using F2 during the boot up sequence can also rescue a slightly damaged setup and if you look in "Help & Support" it gives the method I have followed with the consequence outlined above.

There is nothing that will rectify a' partially fouled system', IMO. F2, reinstall, or whatever, and any competent, knowledgable systems engineer would concur.
Just tell him/her to backup all their important data and perform a clean install. End of, simple as that.

BTW, how was it fouled up in the first place? There is always a reason?. P2P?

Automated System Recovery
Yes of course, my friend, but a complete re-installation even with a 1MB/sec ADSL takes ages. I have used an ASR floppy myself to rescue, but it was loaned to me, and I want to make one for myself. So, if you know how, tell me.

Dude, what on earth are you on about?
All your friend needs is the original, hologramed, XP CD and Product Key!
If no original CD, use the restore/recovery disks. Just fdisk before you restore/recover.

Automated System Recovery
What am I talking about?
Well, during a reboot at the bottom of the screen appears: Press F2 to run the Automated System Recovery (ASR) ...
Setup asks for the ASR disk
Insert the disk into drive A (floppy drive)
Press any key
When the repair is complete, restart the computer
All I want is a method to make an ASR floppy in Windows XP pro and so far, using the ASR wizard in Backup results in a request for multiple floppies on which the whole drive (less data) is, apparently, loaded.
Yes, of course, I can use a utility such as bootable Kill Disk to wipe a drive and do a complete new install of XP pro, install all the updates and programs but this is very tedious Or I can do a repair in the installation process, but, in my experience this corrupts programs that call upon XPpro. Accordingly, having once used an Emergency Repair Floppy I want to make one for myself
