Urgent Advice Needed Please

Hi people. I finally sucummed to installing XP Pro on my PC tonight, which i use soley for gamming. I actually upgraded from WIN2K of which i really did not have any major issues with.

Since installing i have noticed that the performance is really down on what it was running 2k. My internet speed running games has dropped very badly. I run voice software called team speak and when i try to open another programme on top of this it lags, the speech of others becomes jittery etc.

Whilst loading up online games the time they are taking to load is awfull. The sound from my speakers seems choppy also.

My system spec is- Athlon 1.7, SB Platinum, Ti4400, 1gig Ram, IBM Deskstar hd, 1mb adsl

I have tried reinstalling drivers etc etc and this does not seem to have helped the lag in games, the low FPS that i am now getting or the issues with team speak. I have noticed that since the upgrade the hdd has become cluttered. SO I am in the process of running speed disk to see if this makes a difference.

Other than that have you got any advice?

have you tried formatting you're hard drive? maybe upgrading for win2k to winxp pro wasnt a good idea. sometimes it's good to format and install it new.

Try formatting you're hdd (full format) with the winxp pro disk when you boot up. then do a fresh install. should be fine

I agree with 'Rapid!
Wipe the hard drive clean.
Reformat, reinstall Win XP
Win Xp will do the reformatting for you.
Reinstall the drivers as follows;
motherboard, Direct X, video, sound (if not with the motherboard drivers or a separate sound card), modem, all other drivers.

If it still not running to your likeing, maybe going back to Win 2k
is your best bet.
