Windows XP Password forgotten

I have a system that I have not used for months and I have forgotten the login password. Is there any way around this so I can reset the password? I really don't want to start over.

Thanks,

J.P. Kelly

when you power on the machine, tap the F8 key constantly until the boot menu appears. select safe mode. when the welcome screen appears select the admin account, if no one ever set a password for this account you should be able to log in on it. you can create a new user account while in safe mode reboot then use it. not saying this is the case but i will not post how to bypass a password for the simple reason this may not be your account, or the computer is stolen. or even if i knew for sure the circumstances i still would not go any further because this is a open forum, any 12 year old that google searched could find how to gewt into mom and dads accounts.

I agree, and if it was your computer you should of know your password instantly when you see the hint.

From Microsoft's policy regarding missing or invalid passwords:

"The password-protection systems built into Microsoft programs are designed to be unbreakable; there would be no point in including a password-protection system that could be broken."

"Microsoft does not offer a service to retrieve documents to which passwords have been added, nor does it offer any information regarding such services or processes."

"This policy is to prevent any damages to Microsoft product users who rely on the security that their passwords provide. To recover a password-protected document, you must remember the assigned password."
