XP Folders Problem

i'm having trouble opening folders in XP. if i click on a short cut in the quick bar or in the start bar (no folders on desktop) they won't appear for maybe 5-10 minutes. i've searched my box for virus's, spyware (with spybot and ad-aware). i would love to know whats going on, and how i would be able to fix this problem. cheers

i have a p3. 800, 448ram, windows XP pro with plenty of disk space. i use MyIE2 for a browser, and constantly have power menu, symantec corporate a/v and zone alarm running from my system tray.

Hi Luthien. Did you try opening task manager and seeing what applications and processes are running and how much cpu they are drawing? Look for something unfamiliar hogging all your resources. control - alt - delete opens task manager.
I like MyIE2 as well.

i've found nothing in the task manager thats out of the ordinary, even using magic utilities, nothing out of the ordinary
