Clearing Outlook attachments in phantom temp folder

Here're the basics:

MS Windows XP Professional
Version 2002, SP1

Compaq notebook EVO N610C
Mobile Intel pentium 4
512 MB RAM

Symantec antivirus and firewall

Problem:

When I run Outlook 2002, open an attachment from an email, the file gets saved to a folder under my profile subfolder -> then folder "temporary internet files" -> then folder "olk 48".

The problem is "Olk 48" can only viewed when the attachment is open. This folder is not visible under windows explorer. I've also used the "find" function but nada. I've also changed folder options to display all folders but it still doesn't show up.

This usually wouldn't bother me much except that some of the attachments I open are huge and end up getting saved to "Olk 48". Since I can't find the folder, the only work around I've found is to manually delete the file when the attachment is open in, say, Powerpoint.

I've also tried using Disk cleanup but it didn't help.

I've done several searches but have found nothing. Any gurus have the solution?

Thanks.

Hi chendol

I don't know if this will clear the olk48 folder, but I have been using CleanUp 312 for a while and it seems to git rid of a lot of junk
that other clean tools miss.

Looks like I found another work around. Not perfect but it'll do. Use Command Prompt and then use dir/a to show all hidden folders. it shows up this way.

Good ole DOS saves the day!

Lightbulb Another Work Around

I haven't been able to find anything about why you can't see this folder except in dos.

However, if you browse to the temporary internet folder in your user profile (e.g. - C:\documents and settings\sbemister\local settings\temporary internet files) then in the address bar append \olk732b. Where "olk732b" is the name of the folder that outlook created for your profile.

show OLK in windows explorer

A bit late answer still might help someone.

In the run box write %temp% then you get an explorer opened where youcan also see the hidden folders.
