XP Fresh Install - Soundcard problems

Hi,
I have a:
DELL Dimension 2300, 1.8 GHz, Intel with 768 MB RAM. I have a lot of accessories or periphials including:
Printer
Scaner
Media Card reader
Palm
WD 200 Gig HD with IDE card
Audiophile high end sound card

After corrupting the C:\ drive, I bit the bulllet and reformated it and reinstalled windows XP.

OF COURSE..... it used the XP out of the box drivers for everything which means nothing worked or worked right.

After reinstalling as many of the DELL drivers supplied with the recovery disk as I could.... I am still having problems with the original sound card... . The card is a Soundmax.

I have uninstalled it, in hopes to manually reinstall it. XP seems to always find the card itself and install the drivers itself. There are NO errors or bad icons in the device manager profiles. (No exclamation points or question mark icons).

Somehow I really think it's installed. I have double and tripple checked the speakers and wires. They work fine.

ANY IDEAS ???

I wish there were some diagnostics tools you could run on your peripherals and cards and things.

Thanks!!!!

the REAL Problem

Sorry,
The card (the one on the mother board, the SoundMax) doesn't output any audio. - that's the problem

Everything looks correct in the device profile. It shows the card working. (YES, I'm certain it's NOT the speakers).

My high end sound card actually works, but the card on the mother-board doesn't work. It's selected, it's enabled, I have the correct drivers..... but it gives NO SOUND

AAAAhhhh!!!!

I'll try that utility.

Thanks
