New XP Install...but now browsers can't find the web?

yesterday i installed the upgrade XP (i have been using 98). it seemed fine. i made a new connection to my ADSL and it connected as usual. but when i launched my browsers (both IE and Netscape 7.1) they did not recognize that i was logged on and i could not access the web.

i tried it with my dialup connection as well, and though and neither browser worked. i could connect to the web with my spybot, so know i was logged on.

i know there is a solution, but having a hard time figuring this one out.

thanks.

Quick fix is to just install the browsers over themselves again. This should restore the proper paths.
If anymore bugs show up you should do a clean install of XP rather than the upgrade (assuming you did the upgrade).
You can do this with an upgrade cd as long as you have your 98 or ME cd for verification.

I deleted and reinstalled Netscape & IE but they still do not recognize that I have ADSL synch. My other programs that access the web on their own do.

Will do the clean install but before I do, wondered I am overlooking something in configuring for the Internet? Could the firewall be the problem or Norton Anti Virus?

Thanks.
