Monitor in power save mode (urgent)

Hi all happy new year

I know this is a simple question but i cannot remember how to do it my friends monitor is stuck in power save mode when he boots up in XP how do I get rid of this and reume normal use.

What do you mean - 'monitor is stuck in power save mode'?

Can your friend see anything on the monitor when the PC is booting / on?

If you slave a different monitor on to the PC can your friend see anything on the monitor when the PC is on?

If it is the actual Monitor Menu (built into the monitor) that needs adjusting you need to post the Make and Model of said monitor.

Finally got to his home and had a look at the system. Due to his young son shutting windows down incorrectly and then his mates trying to cure the problem Xp has thrown in the towel and gven up the ghost on him. I must admit I have never seen so many problems in an OS from just a crash. There were many missing config files and somewhere down the line his graphics card decided to default to a spec the monitor cannot cope with.
Well fro what should have been straight forward I am now going to have to reinstall his OS for him.
Kids eh.

Yesterday my computer did the same thing.
It goes into power save mode just before the desktop appears; after loading.
What can i do? help help help.....

I had this same issue with power save mode problem, and after trying every software related fix I could find I simply replaced my power supply (one i got on ebay for $20) and the problem was fixed. Turns out the powersupply was weak. At first it would power save mode in like 30 minutes, then 15, then 5 then I realized the more processes I ran the quicker it blinked out. Any way, hope this helps.
