Angry Service Pack 1 startes install then cancels itself

I'm running windows xp professional and when i try to upgrade my system to service pack 1, it will download and start the installation, but after i agree to the EULA, the windows disappears and a windows pops up saying "Service Pack 1 Setup Error: Service Pack 1 Setup canceled" I've tried the express install, the full install and I've tried to install it from a CD. Can anyone help me out with this?

Unless you've got a warez version, try downloading the update to your desktop or somewhere and try installing from there...

other than that... dunno..

I tried installing it from the desktop, still the same thing, it is a hacked version I got from a buddy of mine. It runs a batch file that rolls back the activation timer after every reboot called secreset.bat. I've tried running the sp1 install in safe mode WITHOUT secreset.bat running on boot and it still won't work, any other suggestions would be very helpful or if anyone has this hacked version of xp pro and did successfully install sp1 I'd love to know how ya did it.

I thinks you need to buy a copy of the software first and then you will be able to install SP 1.

Exclamation Warez versions

If you're using a corporate or "warez" version of XP, you are probably using an invalid CD-KEY. (AKA the FCKGW key)

In theory, you need to buy a copy of the corporate version of XP Pro. However, there are SEVERAL ways to get a new CD Key, which I won't list because that would be supporting piracy.

ANYWAY: When you get a new CD-KEY you need to reset your current key. Here's how you do it!

Run regedit and go to:
HKey_Local_machine\software\microsoft\windowsnt\cu rrent version\wpaevents

Now double click on oobetimer and change the value (at least one digit)....Exit Regedit

Now, go to RUN and type:
%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

The ACTIVATION SCREEN will appear...tell it you want to ACTIVATE BY PHONE and click NEXT.

NOW:
In this screen there is an option to change the product key....select that and enter in your purchased, licenced, or REAL CD KEY (btw. It cannot be the FCKGW key) Click update!
Now, close the program and

REBOOT

Retry step 2 to verify that your product is activated and you can finally install SP1!!

Woo-hoo

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, although ultimatley I got the answer I wanted on IRC. A guy there showed me how to Slipstream the Service Pack into my XP Pro installation CD, had to do a full format and reinstall, but I needed to do that anyways, lotsa junk piling up in my system. Thanks anyways for the suggestions.
