Question HID keyboard driver problem

Hello. I received a Nostromo gaming keypad for Christmas and can't get it to function. Running WinXP Pro. NOT a hardware malfunction, as the software for the device itself installs, and the device's functions all appear to be working when using the user interface. The problem is that under device manager there is a yellow exclamation point over unknown device under keyboard where it should say HID keyboard device. Clicking on it and bringing up the driver info and settings, when clicking on Windows to find the driver, or directing it there manually, it fails to install. Message reads "An error occurred during the installation of the device. Data is invalid." I checked my services and the HID service was not activated, nor could I get it to due to an Error 126. Further checking showed I was missing hidserv.dll mouhid.sys and mouclass.sys . I pulled those out of my .cab file in windows/system32 and the service was ok. But still the driver for HID keyboard failed to install. Further checking I found on other posts directed me to check for other .dll's that sometimes fail to load when installing Windows. kbdhu.dll was one and I believe there was another or 2. I pulled those out of the .cab file tried again, and nothing. I am about tapped out of ideas here and am looking for some advice here on the board. Thanks!

Ok, checked the Belking troubleshooting sites to no avail. A friend of mine brought over his laptop with Win XP Pro also installed and he uses the exact same Nostromo controller. It functioned fine on his system. After several reinstalls on my system and other checking I believe we narrowed it down to a problem somewhere in the KBDHID.SYS or INPUT.INF files. I tried copying new files from my Windows .cab files with no success. He tried copying his INPUT.INF and we got an instant BSD. Any other suggestions??? Windows simply will not load my keyboard hid drivers. It keeps saying "data invalid" when I try to install the drivers in device manager under HID keyboard device.

Fixed!!!

OK, it's been a while since anything has been posted to this but since there were 344 views it seems like people were interested. So here's what I found out. I posted at usbman.com and got a response to check this out: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,6156-1359658,00.html I went into my registry and found the string under HID and the string for keyboard and mouse. What I found was the keyboard was missing values, so I just compared the hid compliant mouse values and added what I needed. Went to device manager, let Windows install the drivers, and that was it!!! The only info I could get from MS on "Data invalid" was "The drivers you are trying to install have failed to install" DUHHHH!!! Thanks Bill for the great support staff.
