Problem with fast user switching

Hi, I'm at my wits end and I have tried just about everything so I hope you guys can help. Here is my problem:

I am running XP on a new computer, athlon 2400, ati radeon 9600, service pack 1 installed, and the windows switch user action won't work. When i go to "switch user" I sucessfully get back to the main logon screen, but if I try to log in as the other user, the screen disappears like it should as if it is logging on, but then immediately kicks me back to the main welcome screen again.

If I log one user out I can log in as the other user with no problems, just not when the other user is logged on. I really have no idea what is causing this , and like I said, have pretty much tried most things, so if anyone could help me I would be really greatful since I have an angry girlfriend who can't switch into her account and I won't let her log me off

Cheers
//mike

I think I know what your problem is. Is the user that fails to log-in while using the fast user switching a "non-admin" user?

If that is the case, then try this.

1. Disable fast user switching and the welcome screen.
2. Log in as a normal (non-admin) user.

If you get an error message indicating that the security event log is full, and that only an administrator can log in to resolve the problem then continue. Otherwise it may be a different issue than what I have seen.

I think that while the welcome screen and FUS are enabled this error message cannot be displayed and kick the user back to the welcome screen.

To fix the problem you will need to reconfigure your Security Event Log.

Do the following: Log back in as an Admin User

1. Right Click on My Computer and click on Manage.
2. Under the Computer Managment Window expand System Tools, then expand Event Viewer.
3. Right click on Security and click on Properties.
4. Under "When Maximum log size is reached" select "Overwrite Events as Needed".
Note: You May also want to increase your log size. I recommend it.
5. Enable Fast-User-Switching and the Welcome Screen.

AND YOUR DONE
Let me know if that helped.

No that didn't fix it but I discovered this error in the eventlog (that I didnt know existed):

The Fast User Switching Compatibility service depends on the following nonexistent service: TermService

So do you have any idea how to fix/install this service?

Thanks
Mike

To Start Terminal Service, GoTo your control panel, then to Administrative Tools. Under Administrative Tools, click on services.

Under services search for Terminal Service. Right click on it and goto Properties.

Under the Terminal Services Properties change Startup Type: to Automatic.

This should get you going.

Hey dude! I came across to the same problem. I tried absolutely everything, I tried to activate/deactivate services and/or set them on automatic or manual. But nothing helped untill I tried this:
Besides my current active internet connection I had two extra connections which I didn't use so I used to disable them all the time. So one day I enabled them and tried Fast User Switching option and guess what? It works now, so that was some kinda glitch or something. Try that maybe it will help. Take care...

I had the same problem and it was caused by an "updated" device driver from ATI for my video card. I rolled it back and the problem went away.

Good thing ATI tests their products so thoroughly. That's a pretty big freaking glitch.
