Exclamation Stop Folders from showing contents!

Someone please help me. I'm pulling my hair out on this one. Of course Windows XP's feature of showing 4 pics from the contents of the folder ON the folder in thumbnail view is quite nice, but there are some folders for which I want to disable this feature. BUT I CAN'T. I've been trying (on and off) for more than a year to find a way to do this, and I don't want to have to install a tweak program or some 3rd party stuff do do something as simple as this.

Please, there MUST be a way to turn of folders showing contents. I mean not everyone would WANT this feature will they? It could even pose as a security risk literally inviting the unauthorized user to sneak a peek into the folder when he sees the contents displayed there. Of course I could switch off thumbnail view, but then it won't show for ANY folder.

Thanks

you can try a little program: iProtect, search and download it.

There's GOT to be a way to do this without using a 3rd party app, or any app at all. I'm sure there must be a registry patch or something that will put a function in there or something. There just HAS to be.

Possible help...

Hello
Here's a couple things you might try... I haven't really researched them myself because I don't have a folder containing any pictures on my laptop which I am on now. You've probably already tried both of these things, but who knows?

Possible solution 1: Right click on the folder you want to change, go to properties. Go to the customize tab. The middle box in this tab is "Folder pictures", and from the looks of it you should be able to choose a picture to put on the folder, and maybe there's a way in there to remove the pics?

2. In windows explorer, when you're looking at the contents of the folder you want to change, go up to Tools->Folder options... Go to the View tab. In the advanced settings check box area, it looks like there's a "Do not cache thumbnails." Not quite sure what this would do, but it might help. Also, while you're here, click on the show hidden files and folders, and uncheck the hide protected operating system files. In the folder you're looking I bet there's a file called Thumbnails.db. Try deleting that and see what happens.

Anyway, a couple shots in the dark, hope everything works out ok.

Hi tcrex. I tried out your first suggestion a long time back. The thumbnail.db file is your chache. It basically helps explorer load a thumbnail of the pictures in your folder faster. It's kind of a memory. You can switch that off if the file becomes too big or if you computer is fast enough to not need a picture cache for each folder.

Thanks for trying
