w1nstart.exe error at startup
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1
ABIT KD7A, AMD Athlon XP2200+ 1.83 GHz & 512 mB RAM
60 Gb Maxtor HDD
ASUS FX 5200 Magic V9520
Creative Labs Player 5.1 S/C
Sony CD Writer 52x/24x/52x
Epson Stylus C64, Epson Perfection 1200 Photo
Norton Antivirus 2004, Personal Firewall 2004
Error message shows at startup, appeared recently, no new packages installed although downloaded updates from Microsoft and ASUS recently. Computer appears to operate ok.
Details : Welcome screen at startup, “To begin, click on user name”. Click on user name, “Loading Personalised Settings” appears. Background sound of “error” [clunking sound], then usual tones of other startup items.
Screen clears to main screen with error message
“Windows cannot find w1nstart.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly …..”
I’ve run a search to locate the file without success; also run msconfig – the file w1nstart.exe is shown in the startup tab with a Location [SOFTWARE\Microsoft\….] which I can’t locate on my computer.
Where can I go from here?
