activesync installation crashes my Windows XP

Hi,

I have a new computer, it is dual-boot Windows XP Pro and Linux.
I have a P4 2.6Gh and a P4P800 Asus motherboard (865PE chipset)

I have an older Jornada PDA and I was trying to install Activesync.

The activesync installation hard-crashes my Windows XP, it simply reboots it (or if I disable the automatic start-up option I have the blue screen.

It crashes in the last stages of the instalation process (please note that my poor Jornada or its cradle are not even connected to the computer when it crashes.

I run the activesync setup program, it copies all the files, it installs and than I have a "Get connected" screen for a few seconds and than it crashes.

I tried to install the activesync versions from 3.1, 3.5 to 3.7.1 (last one as far as I know) and none of them worked.

I think I did install the latest chipset drivers from Intel web site and my USB works with my digital camera.

I am out of ideas so any suggestion is more than welcome.

thanks a lot
Tibi

If you can post the STOP error that you are getting that will help a great amount, and we should be able to narrow the cause down a great bit.

The STOP 0x000000xx is what would be great.

activesync crash sort of fixed

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies. Booting Win Xp in safe mode helped: i was able to install it and when i booted again in normal mode it crashed the first time I put it in the cradle, but the second time and so on was ok.

So far it is ok, even though my outlook does not synchronize any of my stuff (it hangs with 50% CPU load). This might be because I need the SP1 and SP2 for my Office XP, I don't know yet, but if you know or saw this behaviour, please let me know what is the cause.

If you would like to know the STOP 0x000 message for any other purpose than just helping me, let me know and I can uninstall it and replicate the crash and I can get back to you with the "bluescreen" error

let me know and thanks
Tibi
