Right click menu takes 25 seconds to appear

A new problem has just appeared after scanning a couple of hundred photos using a slide-scanner; When I go into a folder and select about four small jpgs and "right-click" to bring up the usual menu for choosing COPY - the menu arrival has gone sluggish and takes about 20 to 30 seconds to appear as I wait for the hour-glass.

This doesn't happen if I do a normal rightclick on say a desktop icon and it doesn't happen the second time I try to select and use the rightclick menu. It's the first time I click on the folder or its content that it takes a long time to start the menu.

Programs in fact have always been slow to start the first time I use them on booting up, but as soon as they've been run or opened once they then start in normal rapid time.

I've defragged and tried setting to an early January restore point to a time when it wasn't doing this, but it's still there.

I've tried registry cleaning and now I'm stuck. Anyone any ideas what is happening here?
Thanks
Plado

Not sure if this is the same problem which I've been experiencing - If you're runnning Norton Anti-Virus you might want to have a look at the following page:

Well done and thanks for that. It worked.
I went to the Norton link you gave me. It asked me to remove a tick from one of the security certificates enablement in IE6 Advanced Internet Options settings.

Apparently this problem happens after January 7th and at the moment they haven't got any more than a temporary fix until they find a full page fix or something I didn't understand.

Anyhow I unticked it and clicked apply then re booted and for the moment it has cured it of the problem.

I have to admit I have been scanning a couple of hundred slides and that may be a red herring but it does give the memory a little too much to think about even though I have over 700mb of RAM.
It still gets its knickers in a twist when you over work it.

But it was strange that a re boot didn't clear its throat and put things back to normal. So I think you're right it was the Norton fix and so I'll keep an eye on Symantec in case they find a new fix for it. I have just done a huge Norton Live Update just before this problem occurred and that was nearly 4mb of stuff came down. I wonder ???

Cheers and thanks

Glad to hear that your difficulties were resolved - Personally, I uninstalled Norton A-V before the fix was advised as the slowdown was driving me nuts. I guess I'll now need to think about reinstalling it all over again <sigh>
