Cannot find scanner....XP

I recently upgraded from Win98 to XP with a clean install. All went well all is running fine..printer,sandisk etc.... But when i install mmy scanner and software my system cannot find it. I have d/led all the new drivers from microtek....microsoft says the scanner is compatible with WinXP. I even emailed Microtek for support and did the reinstall the way they say to do it thru safe mode. None of this works. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this scanner at least 25 times with the same result. CANNOT FIND SCANNER !!! I have checked all usb ports and they all claim to be working properly. Someone please help !!!

Do you get the "windows had found new hardware" when you plug the scanner into usb? Have you tried other usb ports?

Scanner

Yes i get found new hardware and yes i have tried all my usb ports. Also i read that in order for the scanner to work in XP it must show up in Imaging Devices in device manager....There is no listing in device manager for Imaging devices.

I realize you have probably done all of this but I need to point it out anyway. Microtek has a fairly involved install/uninstall routine. Have you followed it to the letter? And I see there are 2 download options regarding ocr engine. You may be missing a step somewhere. Good luck.

scanner

You have to reinstall or install the service pack one. There are issues with usb devices.

Lucky for you scanners are cheap these days. Epson and Canon make some nice ones. You got a lot more patience than I. I would have stomped on it by now.

Patience ran out !!!!!

My patience finally ran out....tried the scanner on another sytem and got same results. Scanner now sits in front of my house on the trash can waiting for tomorrows pickup. Bought a new scanner and all works fine. Guess the scanner crapped out. THanks for all your replies.
