Weird random word appears in WordXP Front Page etc.

A friend of mine has just had a really tricky problem arisen which despite a Norton Live Update has done the following -

Disabled Norton Email protection; Stopped IE 6 from fetching any pages; Made random words appear without typing in anything, to Word XP / MS Front Page/ and Exel. the words make no sense and one of them said sousatzka.
It happens on Word XP when using the profile of a member of their family but not when using the main profile.

Norton scan hasn't shown any viruses. They can't get back to do any more live updates as whatever is bugging it, prevents them going to any websites. It seems it will dial up and connect but the browser fetches nothing at all.

I told them it may be a macro but I don't know enough about them to advise how to find this one out and clean out what is going wrong. Best advice was to ask the question on here and see if this fault is familiar to anyone.
