keyboard not recognised
Have built new system, (Asus A7V600-X motherboard, AMD 2800+ barton CPU) having problems with windows xp home recognising a Microsoft wireless multi-media keyboard 1.0A. It's a combined package with wireless mouse, mouse works fine. Keyboard works fine if you enter the bios setup, (or use option during boot up to select safe mode etc) as soon as you enter windows (including the initial installation of windows) and press a key on the keyboard this locks up the mouse and keyboard. The system can use a standard wired keyboard without a problem. Appropriate drivers installed (initially used intellitype pro 2.2 as supplied, later installed intellitype pro 5 – no change to any of the problems), though if you look in the hardware tab of the keyboard (with wireless keyboard plugged in), no device is shown, this is the same within windows device manager – no keyboard is listed. Plug wired keyboard in and this shows as appropriate in both the keyboard properties and device manager. I have another identical keyboard, which works fine on another pc, put this on the new system and the same problem occurs. Have tried the “problem keyboard” on another pc and this works fine. (both running XP Home)
Have booted to safe mode, problem remains that if you use the keyboard, then both keyboard and mouse lock up. On the keyboard there is a row of double function buttons for the "f" keys and multi-media options. When all has locked up this button still turns its light on and off. When the wireless keyboard is plugged in, it is not listed anywhere to remove its drivers.
Have completed full windows xp home update – no change.
Looking at the drivers within device manager, (with wired keyboard in) and comparing it with another system which has an identical wireless keyboard which works fine, the driver files are the same for the 3 pc's I’ve compared with this keyboard, though the "problem" system has an additional one listed at C:\WINDOWS\System32\mskbcoil.dll .
The other drivers are C:\WINDOWSSystem32\DRIVERS\i8042prt.sys and C:\WINDOWSSystem32\DRIVERS\kbdclass.sys . The later 2 are the same on all my pc's. My only other info is that on microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup there is another posting with what sounds like the same problem, though details are slim.
The "problem" keyboard is continuing to work fine on another pc, the "new" system works fine with a wired keyboard, wired mouse, or using the wireless mouse (half of the package). Can't use Microsoft’s online support as both keyboard and xp home are "oem".
I had no luck with m/s knowledge base either!
