Question Desktop Icons wont show, cant right-click.

ok ppl. i have this huge problem and its really making me frustrated.

i restarted my puter and when it booted up "my documents" folder opened automatically with the explorer available. my desktop has no icons and i cant right click my desktop. when i try to drag stuff from the explorer onto the desktop the cursor turns into a little "no" symbol. i also cant access my start menu. even with the windows key on the keyboard.

it acts like its in "web page mode" but i navigated to the control panels and opened "display" but i dont see that that option is turned on. i ran norton antivirus. nothing. i rebooted several times. nothing.

i am running windows xp pro.

i am really at a loss. please hep me.

Sounds like someone has messed up your settings. It is possible that the lack of icons on the desktop is a desktop properties setting that allows the wallpaper to cover the icons, but the lack of a start menu is something that would require registry entries to do. The simplest thing to try is "restore". Try using explorer to navigate to %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe where %SystemRoot% is your Windows directory. Open Rstrui.exe and restore the system to an earlier restore point.

smiley, CTL ALT Delete, task manager, you can start explorer by clicking new task, go to C:\\WINNT and the explorer.exe file is there.
