Explorer crashes

Hi all,

Newbie to these forums, and to PC's too, so please bear with me!

Fortunately, I'm an old hand on the internet though.

Basically, I am running XP Professional with just about everything up to date.
I have no viruses (although I've got rid of two in the couple of months I've had this PC) and I have two anti spyware programs on the go (Internet cleanup 3.0 running at the same time as Explorer and Ad-aware latest version to double check after an Explorer session). According to the programs mentioned my hard drive is totally free from viruses and any kind of spyware as I do very frequent scans.

When running Explorer I get very frequent crashes, of the 'Explorer has to close' variety - only a handful of my regularly used sites won't crash it. These forums crash it, and I'm using Firebird to view this.

I would use Firebird permanently, but Internet Cleanup doesn't work with it.

Anyone help with this one? It's bloody infuriating and slowly driving me mad!

Unfortunatly, because IE is an integral part of the operating system itself, reinstalling is not really an option. Here is what MS suggests. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378
I still maintain it is better to park IE and use one of the alternate browsers based on IE. You can always uninstall them or reinstall them if you have trouble. They have all kinds of features and options IE does not. They are pretty much IE but improved with popup blockers, clean trace, translation, autologin, tabbed browsing, and lots more. Slimbrowser, MyIE2, and Avant are the most popular.

Amen. I would say leave IE behind and stick with Firebird. Ad-Aware is a better spyware program than internet cleanup and if you're concerned about cache, history, and the like you can do all of that within the browser itself. Personally, I only use IE when I download windows updates....the rest of the time i use Mozilla.
