Unhappy xp reading cd-r made on win 98!

i used to have windows 98 and now have xp but i have found that cd-r disks made on win 98 wont work on xp, and xp on recognises them as blank discs. Is there anyway of rectifying this?
I have tried these disks on more than one machine with xp on and they dont work.

What sort of program did you use to burn the cd-r's in Win98?
