Xp audio file Playing Problem

Well I have a little problem....I installed xp on a Pentium 466 with 128 megs of ram. Before installation audio played no problem.

But now after the installation, its not that the audio sound will not play...its that the audio file will not play at all..example when I open an MP3 or a file from an audio cd it wont move through the song...it play like one second and thats it...I am kinda stuck with this so could someone please help me??

ps video files play alright but with no sound...also there were no conflicts in the device manager or any notices that i would have problems when i installed XP os......

thanks in advance

Scott

I'm surprised you even got XP to boot on a pentium 466 w/ 128 mb ram!! Your problem is probably due to your sound card, but your system is not really capable of running XP well...so you can expect more problems to arise.

Well I kinda knew that but it was my uncles computer...he was having problems with a digital comptuer and wanted to install a cd bruner...I figured that he should up grade...he was using win 98.....so that the digital camera and cd bruner would work the best

And I kinda figured that it would not run perfect..but what should be done...New processor or more ram...and do you think the problem i am having is a result of the power of the computer?? or lack there of

The causes of the problem you face on an old computer with XP OS could be due to the CPU speed being too slow or some conflicts with the audio drvier, though it is not shown in the device manager.
I would strongly recommend you to remove the audio driver in the device manager first and reboot your computer to reinstall the audio driver. Possibly the audio problem will be solved.
