Angry XP can't communicate wireless

I use a linksys router that works wireless with 4 ibm thinkpad machines..one with win 2000 prof, rest with win 98.

All ok can either connect wirelsssly or use DSL.

Got new IBM G40 Machine with internal card and xp pro
set up DSL dail up works fine

The card finds the linksys router but will not communicate with it
signal strengt excellent etc.

When using DOs to ping router, either first packet is lost or all four packets are lost

Ibm came and installed a new card, Ibm loaded all new drivers.
Lynksys loaded all new drivers etc.

Router works fine on my lap with IBM T22 but on my lap the g40 behaves as above

Spent 30 hours so far and am ready to throw the xp machine in trash

There is no firewall

WEP enscription has been turned off

Can ANYONE help?

P.S. if it sounds like I know waht I am talking about I don't so please if there are any ideas, make it complete and simple..thanks

Wireless network could be pain in a $$$$ sometimes,, you did not mention anything about SSID of your system,, basically SSID id like network group name that has to be the same as what it is on your router,, here is an excellent link to walk you through Wireless Network setup:

You must have something wrong in your configuration. I have 5 computers on my network and three of them are laptops communicating wirelessly. Two of those are running Windows XP pro. I also have a Dell desktop running XP Pro and a Window 98 desktop from HP.

My wireless is Cisco but I have used other laptops with Linksys wireless NIC's as reciently as today.

One question. Are you using XP home or pro edition. I'm using Pro and I've heard some un-complementry things about the home edition.

Make sure the SSID's agree and remember you have to share something for them to communicate and you need to describe a user on the XP machine for each person communicating to it.

Good luck if I can help let me know
