Consistency test everytime i restart

Hi everyone,

I have Windows XP Home Edition on a Sony Vaio PCG-FX502 Laptop.(AMD Duron 1 GHz, 512MB RAM).

Lately my computer is running a consistency test almost everytime i restart the system, and sometimes it says something like "the folder \system is completely unreadable". When the test finishes everything works normally, but it takes like 10 or 15 minutes to be over. I just re-installed Windows a week ago, that kinda thing shouldn't be happening.

Did this happen sometime to anybody? I appreciate your opinions.

Thanx in advance.

Your hard drive may have develpoed few bad sectors that's why it does that,, if your computer is still under warranty then ask the MFG to replace the drive for you.

cheers

It could be that your hard drive is corrupted or failing. I would get your pertinent data transferred soon just in case.
You can run a diagnostic tool from your hard drive manufacturer that will tell you what condition your drive is in.

I noticed that the files causing my computer to run a consistency test (scandisk/chkdsk) everytime i restart were old .CHK files. I couldn't even run a defragmentation.

But i searched for the files, erased them, and problem solved No more scandisk at restart, and defragmentation runs ok.

It seems kind of weird that scandisk/chkdsk had a problem with .CHK files, which are actually created when you run that sort of test.
