Unhappy Can't use system restore

Yesterday I tried to use system restore after I deleted a program and every time I tried to use it Windows would shut down my computer before the process could finish. After rebooting I would receive a message that my system could not be restored to that date. I tried several dates, but none would work. I am fairly new to XP, so does anyone have an idea what is wrong? Thanks.

See if anything here is helpful. Have you tried running System Restore in Safe Mode?

RE: Can't use system restore

Thanks for all the information. I read all the sites and did numerous searches for additional info. I tried using system restore several times in safe mode, used many different dates, but everytime it starts restoring files, windows XP shuts down the computer before it has a chance to finish. Then I get the message - "Your computer cannot be restored to (date). No changes have been made to your computer." I just can't figure out what the problem could be.

If you haven't created any Restore Points, or if they've been deleted, than you can't use System Restore. The fact that XP is supposed to create Restore Points on its own can't be relied on. The explanation may be here (see link below). I would suggest creating a Restore Point now then seeing if you can get System Restore to restore to that point.

Can't use system restore

I've created several Restore Points for the last two months, but every time I use system restore Windows shuts down my computer before the process is completed and I receive the same message.
