Angry Page loading issues (maybe a display problem)

I am not super computer-savvy, so I really need help. Oftentimes, when loading a page on the web, the computer suddenly begins to load very slowly and I see blotches of color (mostly red) on the screen. If i try to move the mouse, it does not move smoothly, and sort of jumps around the screen. When I push Ctrl/shft/esc or ctrl/alt/del, that does nothing, b/c it takes forever for that to load too. I have run several virus scans, disk defragmented, and reinstalled XP. Reinstalling XP seemed to work for a moment, but then it started happening again. I am getting frustrated b/c recntly, it happened when I was in Word. I wasn't even connected to the internet! This leads me to believe that this is a display problem. Please help! I am using a Dell Inspiron 2650. Also, the problem seems to happen when I have been using the computer for at least 30 mins. I do not leave it on for days at a time, at the most, I have left it on for one full day. Thank you in advance.

vitaminr, when you r computer slows down basically it means, it is using the resources for something else instead of what you want,, so you have to look for some un-usual process that is is running in the back round,, can you by any chance post the active process in your computer,, or take a snap shot of it and post it here, Also include a list of applications that run on startup and system tray, someone here may be able to point out the un-usual process to you

cheers

Okay, I actually wouldn't know how to do that. I know how to take a screen shot, but I don't know how to show the startup memory or the system tray. If anyone could help me with that, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

"I see blotches of color (mostly red) on the screen"

Now that sounds Very serious (never heard this bfr)

do a virus scan
get spybot and adaware (free) and search for spys (do it!)
then start looking into your services

I dont think its a display problem

Here's how to see the list of processes:
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Click on the "Processes" Tab

This window lists all the processes that are running and the percentage of your computer's processing power that each is running; "system idle process" is the percent that's not in use. Usually, system idle process is very high (in the 90s) and everything else is low. Next time your computer slows down, take a look at this window...system idle will probably be down close to zero and another process will probably close to 100. If you tell us what process(es) are consuming your cpu, we can better help you.

The problem with the red splotches seems very odd, and unfortunatly I have nothing to add...hopefully it's related to whatever process is slowing down your computer.

Best of luck.
