Partitioning

Ok just a quick question on partioning - i'm planning on formatting my comp.

so all i do is, put in my start up disk...restart, type in format:c - now comes the tricky part.....is FAT 16 better or FAT 32? (i'm using windoes xp professional, service pack 1.)

also if i want to seperate my OS - how do i create a second partition, and what number should i make it to?

Best partition is NTFS then FAT 32 then FAT 16 but ...

If you want to use a Win9X (95, 98 or ME) machine on a network you will not be able to see data on an NTFS Patition.

The simplest way to partition your drive is to boot from your XP CD this will give you all the options you want to partition and format the HDD.

Your OS should be on C Drive, any further partitions on the same HDD will get the next available drive letter. These can be adjusted by using Computer Mangement Console (Usually C:\WINDOWS\system32\compmgmt.msc)

DO NOT
change the Drive Letter for your OS Partition!

You are not clear as to what you have plans to do. I think you are going to clear your hard drive. And then I think you are saying that you want to make your system a dual boot system? This means that you will have win 98 and win xp running on the same system? If this is correct, let us know? also how large is your hard drive(gigs?) Lenny
