Something trying to install on startup

It's called spywareremover.msi. When the pc boots up, this thing pops up and attempts to install (also while opening up random programs); it'll try three times when you hit cancel then stop. I tried a utility from Microsoft dealing with damaged .msi installers but it found nothing. I also checked whats on startup but nothing there. Any ideas how I can get rid of this in the registry? This is on my Uncle's pc and a format is really a last option.

I forgot to mention I tried Spybot and Adaware. I don't think it's spyware, but something one of his sons damaged somehow and now it's trying to install on startup.

I had a somewhat similar problem with "SpywareRemover.msi" wanting to do an installation when I started a couple of different programs on my computer. I found a registry entry that was left over after I removed Bullet Proof Software's Spyware Remover program that I had previously installed. This is what was causing the "SpywareRemover.msi" to pop up.

To find it I opened regedit, did a "find" for the word spyware, and found the entry in a key under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features

I deleted it and haven't had the problem since.

Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks for the info!!!

Had a similar problem with a few programs that would not load/install because the F@#$%* file was missing. Now it works again. Good Show
