Can't play games - keep crashing - help needed bad!

Greetings!

Recently when I play games (Battlefield, KOTOR etc.) they crash after about 5 - 15 min's and I get booted to desktop, no error messages or anything, sometimes the resolution is changed. It started a few days ago; about the same time I installed directx 9.0b. I don't think it's a heat problem since I've had the computer for a while and it has never done it before, but to be honest I don't know that much about computers. I need to keep directx 9.0b on my computer to be able to play some new games I've got so I can't just remove it and go back to an older version.

I have updated all drivers, graphics card, sound card and chipset. I've tried to look in the log files but I can't find anything that helps though I should point out I've no idea what the stuff in there says most of the time, but no warnings or errors are displayed as far as I can see. I've formatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything and I've checked for virus and spywear, to no avail. I really need some expert help here, I have no idea what else to do.

AMD Athlon XP 2000 (1.67 Ghz)
SoundBlaster PCI 128
Creative Blaster FX 5600 Ultra 128MB
Windows XP Home Edition
AntiVir Virus Prog (turned off while I play games)
DirextX 9.0b

I don't know the answer to the problem but I found bunch of people that have the same problem with that game too,, come to think of it ,, that might be a very buggy game,, anyways, her is the link:

Tried to play a third game to see if I could get any clues and this time I got an error msg - not that it means anything to me but maybe someone here can tell me more about it.

Would be very thankful if someone here could help me understand what is wrong since I basically know nothing about computers.
