Smile Change Open/Closed Folder Icons

I am looking to see if anyone knows how to change the default Open/Close Icons in windows xp. I am tired of the drab yellow they use. I have my own icons, and they are stored in %icons% (%icons% is set to C:\Windows\Icons). I can change my Desktop icons, and my drive icons, but I am having trouble with those. Thanks to anyone who helps!

you can change single folder icons, by Right-Clicking The Folder You Want To Change The Select "Properties" and go to the "Customize" tab and down the bottom will be something that lets you change the folder icon

does this help?

I had a similar post and a similar problem, which I am still looking for the answer to. The best way I know of to set a custom icon for a folder in explorer is to create a desktop.ini file in that folder and paste this into it:

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
IconIndex=0

Of course use your own Iconfile. You only need the IconIndex if there is more than one icon in the file. Also don't forget to attrib +s +r the folder too or else windows won't read the desktop.ini.

Now the problem: When you click on a folder in the left-hand pane (tree view) it opens the folder in the right pane of course, but also the icon in the left pane changes from a closed folder to an open folder, and changes back when change to a different folder. When you set the icon like this it stays the same whether the folder is open or not. What I guess I want to do is set a custom icon for both open and closed states. Is this possible, anyone know? Thx
