New DSL working at qtr speed of dial-up ~ HELP

I just installed a new dsl modem yesterday, got it hooked up and it is SLOW. I called MSN and they walked me through everything. The modem is working, but I was told that I need to contact Compaq and have them walk me through how to extract Winsock files. Of course, my warrantee is void because I upgraded to XP professional, and they can't (won't) help me. PLEASE...someone help me extract my winsock files, I don't want to be stuck with dial-up anymore!

Kris

Go here and test your connection.

The only real way to replace the Winsock2 file is to replace it with a working one from another XP machine; or clean install XP on that machine.
