New XP Installation problems......
Ok, so I bought a comp that originally had Windows installed on it, my friend that I bought it off of, installed Mandrake Linux 9.1 on it, but there were some problems I ran into on a new operating sustem, so I formatted and installed Windows XP Pro. Installation went fine, and everything is working but:
The only screen resolution/color selection I can choose is 640x480 with medium (16 bit) color. The monitor will support much better resolutions, but it wont recognize the monitor's ability to do so. Going into the Device manager, under "Other Devices" there is the "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" but with the yellow questionmark, so no drivers have been installed, if I'm not mistaken......
Before I go on, I must say I am using two computers here, (this computer I am typing on, and the one I am having the problems with).... I have tried to connect these two computers, (cable internet coming into the cable modem, then into this computer, then I have a second NIC connecting the two together) so I can access the net to have it install drivers and such, but to no avail. The NIC is working fine in this computer, but even though the network cable is plugged in between the two computers, it does not recognize it on this computer as being plugged in. And, on the second computer, the one I'm having problems with, is not even recognizing the NIC, so I cannot setup any network that way.
I have also tried downloading the drivers for the monitor (Gateway EV700) directly from Gateway, and tried installing them in the Drivers folder on the computer, but it still will not recognize the drivers.
Also, any suggestions of how to get the net connection shared between the two comps, as I have them setup now, or how to get the other NIC recognized... would be greatly appriciated.
Any suggestions/ideas/anything will definatly be very helpful. Since I just installed XP on that computer, I have no problems with anything that requires reinstallations or anything like that.
Thanks everyone..... and as I said, any suggestions are welcome, and if any additional info is needed, just lemme know, and Ill give u all the info I can.....
