how to block tcp ports??

hello all,
i am running xp home, using pc-cillin 2002 as my antivirus, which works amazingly, but here is my only quirk..
they continually list which ports are being attacked when my firewall is hit by all different types of hackers, but they do not offer a function to block that port.

so what i am wondering is if there is a way to permanently close off ports in windows, and if so, if it will show what that port is being used for, so that i dont interrupt my internet service when i disable it. i have noticed that 3 ports are most often attacked, and im not sure if thats warning me that its a vulnerable spot, and should be closed off. any help would be great!!

there are ways to close any ports you want,, but I would not recommend that,, what if in two months you got a new software that need that closed port to go out,, then you have to be looking for UN-DO,, best thing it t make sure that you have enough protection ,, if you want to test how secure is your system.. go to this site http://www.grc.com and click on "shield up" ,, they will run scan on your system and tell you if your system is secure of not, then you can look for firewall software or something.

cheers
