Enabling long file names??!
We got a new pc with our new machine we got installed last week. It is a Compaq bla bla bla, with Windows XP. It was already set up and we didn't have to do any installation when we got it, just turn it on. Anyway when we go to veiw a file name it won't show the entire file name when over 8 characters...I think but whatever...It just shows the beginning of the file name, then a ~ then the last letter of the file. I know on old windows OS you couldn't name files over 8 characters long and this seems to be not reading those right. Where do I go to enable the long file names ??? I looked on Microsoft's site and couldnt find anything about it. It is a problem for us because we save jobs that we run on the hard drive and our customers will use a part number like 002901234 Rev A for instance. They will all start with 00290 usually and then the last 4 numbers are the actual part. However some parts may start with 00590, it all depends on whether it is a singular part or an assembly. We used to have to just save the last 8 digits of the part but that can get confusing as some numbers are similiar and then we cannot save the part # revision which gets confusing because they are always changing revisions and updating stuff. Anyway if anyone has an intelligent answer, please post as I am kind of screwed until we fix this.TY!!
