can't delete certain files

hi,

i have a couple of large movie files which when i try to delete them i get a message saying those files can't be deleted because they are being used by a person or a program. does anyone know what is causing this problem as i have tried to delete them after booting so i'm certain no program or person is using them then.

I assume you are trying to delete them in windows explorer even after rebooting, WindowsXP has a hard time with this sometimes, I could explain, but that won't help. Try rebooting and deleting them in a Command Prompt. Reboot, start cmd.exe then go to the folder and delete them.
