Xp acpi and shut down problems.
If anyone could answer this question I will be very grateful.
I have just built a new machine and due to some faulty memory I ended up disabling acpi in the bios. With some new memory installed I managed to get xp to install but unfortunatly I had not re-enabled acpi. Subsequently upon completion of the install xp wouldn't shut down properly. So I enabled it in the bios and also in the power management settings in xp. Unfortunatly this did not fix the problem. I did some research and I then tried to change the settings in device manager, the computer should have been an "acpi uniprocessor pc" however it read "standard pc". I tried many ways to fix this problem but it appears that xp does not intall the necessary drivers unless acpi is enabled in the bios during installation.
Due to time constraints I fixed this problem by completely re-installing xp, however I would like to know if there is a manual method of fixing this problem.
Thanks in advance
Simon
