Question notepads

After recently downloading a virus removal tool, two notepads open when I turn on my computer. How do I get them NOT to open?

Run MSCONFIG and look in the startup tab for anyting notepad or text-file related. If you are confused by what's listed there, post what shows up in the startup tab of msconfig here and we will try to help further.

notepads

Going down the startup list, there are 18 checked boxes (or squares): they are as follows: ccApp, ccRegVfy, EM_EXEC, tgcmd, stcloader, SYSCHECK, SOLOSENT, SOLOCFG, SDetect, Button, qttask, opnste, ypager, Album Fast Start, desktop, HPAiODevice (hp of..., desktop and DLHelperEXE.

Then there is a 19th box, unchecked: it is followed by 8 boxes and they are followed by 9 boxes.

I am a novice at the computer, so please bear with me. What other info can I give you? I couldn't print the startup config and tried to use an Excel worksheet to attach, but in one portion of the "Command" section of the startup menu is a squiggly line that looks like an"s" lying on its back and I don't know how to make that line.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Color me confused.

That squiggly line is a till ( ~ ), key left of the #1 key uppercase. This is usually used for long file names. Instead of using excel you may want to try to use notepad. Hard to tell what your problem is without knowing what's in those other boxes.
