No Sound on Windows XP

Hi.

I seriously need help. I had to reinstall Windows XP, after I reinstalled it I had no sound. when I tried to open any kind of sound file it says no sound card detected and also no active sound mixer. I installed a driver from drivers.com but when I tried to install it it says again no active mixer device.

When I go into System information under sound device its blank. but to be honest I don't know the first thing about it!

can anyone help? I'll buy you chocolate?

Do you have a built in sound card?
Do you have the original Motherboard chipset drivers?
