XP font problem

The other day i installed system mechanic pro on my computer...later that night i restarted my computer and the 1st thing that came up was system mechanic and it starting checking something..then restarted my machine. After that my computer wouldnt start right..safe mode would hang after it listed a bunch of drivers..and normal mode just made the comp restart. I tried a bunch of this including the 5 disk boot up for xp. During the 2nd disk it would give me an error. After a some time just restarting it..it finally went into safe mode..I then got rid of system mechanic...but now when my machine starts up, its in japanese (I think). I checked my fonts folder and theres nothing in it. All my fonts seemed to vanish...I tried to reinstall some of them but once i close out that folder..and go back into it..its empty again....Anyone have any ideas?

A friend of mine is having the same trouble, but not from installing something, his dog stepped on his keyboard. In his font folder it shows that by the large number of MB that his fonts are still there, he just cant see them. And hes gone through the advanced appearence preferences, which only lists 4 fonts to choose from, and changed some things, but whenever he messes with his font folder things change back to the unreadable jibberish font.....

probably tried this before, have you used system restore? if you can read the menu, try to find the run command and type msconfig then on the sys config screen that comes up click launch system restore.
