Serious Malfunction With My Windows Date/time Application

OKay here is the problem:

You know that little date/time thing at the bottom right of the screen, yea well it is completely broken. It is fine if I set it to any month that is June and forward but if i set it correctly to february, it automatically jumps to june or august. This is a serious problem because (one) - it is annoying and (two) - I cannot do Microsoft Windows Updates because when it does the scan it cannot determine the correct time and date.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELp

(btw... im on win xp home)

CONTINUED:

here is what happened:

I was talking to a friend about meeting him on vacation and i pulled it up to use a as a calendar. everything was fine. i then closed it back down. later he gave me more dates so i opened it up and noticed it said june when i opned up. i ignored it thinking it was just the scroll button on my mouse that I may have hit. It kept coming up on June and then I got worried. Now I can set it back to Feb, hit apply, wait two seconds and I see it flip back to June. If i put it on feb and hit ok, i can put the mouse over the time and it says Feb, but then jumps to June. I seriously need your help!!!

SPECS: (JUST IN CASE THEY COULD HELP YOU AT ALL)

-Sony Vaio P4 2.66 ghz
-80 gig HD
-512 DDR RAM
-G4 Ti4600 128mb
-Windows XP Home

What happens when you manually synchronize the time?

(tab) Internet Time > (button) Update Now

Nothing happens and I found out why udner help:

Apparently you cannot syncronize with the Time Server if you have an incorrect date. The time works perfectly, its the fact that I cannot get the correct month.

I have now realized I can make it go to any month in advance but I cannot go back from that. I tested it out by clicking december and then "OK" Now I cannot go to any month in 2004 behind December... If i dont get this fixed soon, I am sure ill face even more problems when its march 2004 and the comp thinks its January 2005

Crap...

Have you tried re-booting?

One thing you can try, if you have a corrupted system file, is the System File Checker (it scans all protected system files). You'll need your installation CD in case you're asked for it.

Start > Run, type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes.

try setting the date/time in the bios, not sure what machine/board you have, try tapping the delete key, F1,F2,F10,or the ctrl key right after you power on the computer. the standard setup screen will have the time and date, it uses military(24 hour) time so if it is for example, 6:00pm it would need to be set at 18:00 hours. after it is all set there, press F10 usually is save and exit on most boards, if not go to the exit tab and select the save settings option.
