What to buy XP Pro or XP Pro Upgrade?

Greetings:

I am wanting to upgrade to Win XP Pro since my new video editing software requires it. I now use Win NT. I'm assuming that any kind of upgrade from another Windows OS should take the XP Upgrade version, not the regular one; in order to maintain my regular working Windows programs during the upgrade.

But I see one vendor is holding a "sale" on the non-upgrade version, which is normally more, for about $40 less than the upgrade. What's going on here? Could you actually upgrade with that version in any way?

the full retail version will upgrade your system same as the upgrade version. the ones to watch out for are oem full versions, if you have a older system it will only want to full install. upgrade versions are the same as the full with one excepion, they will ask to read a previous version windows os disk while installing, if you dont have one on the drive. any windows os disk will work, 3.1, nt4, 98,2k, and ME.
