Question USB Autodetect Hardware Issues

Windows XP is not recognizing any USB device I plug in. More importantly I am attempting to install my Canon Multipass USB printer, but Windows XP Professional does not recognize the printer when I plug it into the USB port when prompted by the setup software. When I was using Windows Home Edition on the same PC it the USB worked just fine, but after the upgrade I am having issues. I already have the Service Pack 1 installed, USB is enabled in the BIOS, and all of Windows Updates as of today have been downloaded and installed. Please help!! Many thanks.

System Brand: Gateway
OS: Windows XP Professional: SP1
Printer Type: Canon MultiPASS F50
Anti-Virus: None Installed
# of USB Ports: 8
Intel Brand Motherboard

Have you checked the USB driver in the /Control panel/System/Hardware/USB controller/USB Enhanced Host controller to see if it works properly or not, normally without any question mark or exclamation mark on it. Make sure you have the
"Chipset Name" USB Enhanced Host Controller " work normally.
Good luck.

Everything in the Device Manager is operating correctly with no exclamation points. There are no "Unknown Devices" listed anywhere. Thanks for the quick reply, and I hope the info helps anyone to solve this.

About the first sentence that you wrote "any USB device", have you tried any other USB External Device connecting to the USB port to make sure that the computer can auto-detect the Device?

Yes, I tried using my Starband 360 Satellite modem through USB with no luck. Windows XP should have autodetected drivers for it, but not in this case.

What is the USB chipset names that you are using?
Maybe you need to download the patched drivers from the chipset manufacturing company to solve the problem for WindowsXP.

I resolved the problem. For future reference to everyone with this issue, just because there isn't an Exclaimation point or Question mark beside a device in the Device Manger, doesn't mean there isn't a problem. The driver wasn't installed for PCI to USB Root Hub. Thanks for all the help..
