Recycle Bin Icon on Desk Top

Hi Everyone,

What I would like to accomplish is to REMOVE the Recycle Bin Icon off my Desk Top. Then I would like to RESTORE it at a later date, if I choose to do so. I'm running Home Version XP.

Also I would like to know if the Recycle Bin empties automatically after a certain period of time. i.e. 1 day, 5 days,...etc. If so, how do I change this setting?
